CHARITY UPDATE AUTUMN 2019
October 2019
We can't quite believe that another Summer is over and we are within the Autumn season again and dare I say it - Christmas is on the horizon!
It has been a relatively quiet Summer in regards to fundraising activities but we have continued to offer help to 15 residents since June 2019 and are actively supporting 3 residents/families (Sept 2019). We had our AGM in July and happy to say that all 3 Trustees remain and The Charity can continue to function. We are always on the look out for new members to join our Committee, so if interested, please do not hesitate to contact Tracy on 07976867910.
We would like to say 'Thank you' to our regular donators - St Albans Steam society for their faithful donation from their recent event this Summer. Thanks also go to Monica and The Coffee Dog and her band of volunteers for their kind donations each month - it's very much appreciated.
We thought it would be good to update you with our activities and future fundraising plans for the next year..........
Thank you for your on going support at the Village Show 'Tea Room' whether it was making your favourite cakes for us to sell, devouring them during the event or by taking a box home. You all managed to help us raise a fantastic £320. Always a great Community event bringing all ages together!
We have agreed to run to 2 further Guest Chef nights at The Spotted Dog next year in March and October 2020 - dates are still to be confirmed but we have willing and able Chefs on board! We are also hoping to activate a Charity representative/volunteer for each road in the Parish of Flamstead to help us capture a broader spectrum of the village, be alerted to any residents in need and enable access any help required in a timely way. We are happy for volunteers to come forward or a committee member may be approaching you directly in due course.
Other fundraising suggestions for 2020 may include a Yard Sale and a "Castaway" Island experience by one of our Trustees.......watch this space! We have been also been successful in achieving a Silver Bond place in the Virgin London Marathon next April and we are thrilled to announce we have awarded the place to one of our residents, Karen Hill. We encourage you to get behind her and The Wish Tree Charity by donating via her fundraising page in due course. More details to follow......
This is her story:
'Well this is a paragraph I never thought I'd be writing.....I'm entering the London Marathon! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when The Wish Tree Charity approached me to let me know I was successful in being selected.
The Wish Tree Charity is very close to my heart as they supported our family when we lost an amazing lady and their support at a very difficult time is something I will be forever grateful. They have also practically supported family members during times of ill health and surgery over the years and recently this year. It made me realise that we are fortunate to get older.......not everyone is that lucky.
So 26.6 miles, what could go wrong? Knackered knees, black eyes, hours of training - a challenge for sure! However, with the support of Wish Tree, Redbourn Physios, Valerie looking down on me and support from family and friends, I've got this.......Oh and not forgetting a supportive bra! I am hoping to raise as much as possible for The Wish Tree Charity so they can continue to support our lovely village. Dig deep and donate. My funding page to follow.
Thank you
Karen.'
