CHARITY UPDATE AUGUST 2021
August 24, 2021
Dear Villagers
We trust you are all keeping well and, like us, hope for some warm, sunny weather to keep us going over the next few months to help us cope with the on-going Covid restrictions.
Like many other organisations, COVID has continued to impact our activities and movements but it was great to have our first face to face meeting outdoors in July in place of a virtual meeting. We have started to brainstorm some ideas for an event on a Saturday late June/early July 2022 in the village. There is nothing set in stone at this stage but we are exploring an alternative option of an Open air cinema event for both children and adults which we hope the village will support so watch this space...........
We would like to take this opportunity to bid farewell and say a massive ‘Thank you’ to Mark Evans - one of our committee members who is sadly moving away from Flamstead. He has given his time voluntarily both practically for residents as well as helping to organise/volunteer at all our fundraising events over the last 6 years. He will be greatly missed alongside his wife Lynne, who has worked at the village school and lived in the village for many years, and has also volunteered at our fundraising events. We hope the move goes smoothly and it feels like ‘home’ very soon.
We continue to be in a secure position financially and this has been supported by several donations as well as from our very own villagers with their creative ideas:
A big 'Thank you' to Emma Solomon for her Doorstep Photo Challenge idea which took place in April/May 2021. This raised £295 for the Charity for which we are very grateful. You can find her at www.emmasolomonphotography.co.uk
We would also like to thank Tim Moss and Annabel Freer for the Flamathon where we directly received £208 alongside Flamstead school and Pre-school who also benefited from this fundraising idea over Easter. We are also very grateful to the Hertfordshire Rural community charity called Community Development Action (CDA) who awarded us £100 and this will directly go towards supporting practical help for villagers.
The Charity has also benefited from a large donation from a local business last year which was given for us to use during the Covid pandemic. Most of this donation has now been allocated to villagers going through difficult times to assist in paying for essential bills, food vouchers, practical support and other financial contributions. Some of the monies were also used to provide necessary PPE equipment and educational resources to aid virtual learning at the Village school.
We are actively supporting several residents at present with on-going health needs with help such as cleaning, transport, dog walking, childcare and other practical support. We ask you to keep bringing villagers to our attention, who you feel may benefit from our support. This will be dealt with the utmost confidence.
If you wish to know more about the Charity, notify us of someone who may need our help or you are interested in getting involved, then please visit our website - www.thewishtreecharity.co.uk and get in contact via info@thewishtreecharity.co.uk
Wishing you all a lovely summer……
